My name is Pau Giménez and I am a Social Media Specialist and Data Analyst born and raised in Barcelona. I came to live to Ireland nearly 5 years ago, and I still resist the lovely Irish weather!
My first destination in Ireland was Clonakilty, West Cork, a lovely spot with beautiful landscapes and full of cows. I was there doing my PhD and working at Pompeu Fabra University remotely in an idyllic environment. I moved then to Dublin to work at Google first, and at Facebook afterwards.
I like to play my electric bass, sing and compose, and I love to watch and practise sports like rugby or football. My most recent hobby is running. I just finished my first half marathon and my next challenge is to finish a full marathon if I haven’t destroyed my knees before!
The idea of this blog came up when I was living in Clonakilty. Inspired by Sting’s song ‘An Englishman in New York’, I improvised a version called ‘A Catalan in West Cork’. That became a local hit (at least for a couple of friends and I), and gave the name to a blog explaining my whereabouts in Ireland. When I moved then to Dublin, the site became ‘A Catalanman in Dublin Town’.
This blog is the product of my experiences in Ireland and a synthesis of those two first blogs. There will be a mixture of my professional and personal experiences, and a lot of ranting and ‘grumpying’. I will also try to give some tips for foreigners and locals on different matters such as living and working in Ireland, restaurants, pubs or sports.
Feel free to drop by and say hello!
